A Rock in the Garden

LG House, 2022

/

A large mass, as if a rock had broken off from the mountain of Alhaurín de la Torre, has fallen into the garden of this residential development — and become a house.

The promenade leading from the entrance of the plot to the dwelling is structured by a sequence of stepped volumes that rise toward the access level, accompanied by a ramp that curves along the main façade. Everything enters into dialogue with the Alhaurín landscape: the material palette is austere, delicate, and unpretentious.

Light, like the openings, adapts to the surroundings to create intimate views — such as the horizontal line of the living room window or the apertures that open onto the porch.

The landscape is framed from various angles, engaging with the interior voids of the house. The layout is composed of a few, well-positioned, and simple rooms. On the south façade, facing the mountain, large-format windows flood the intermediate spaces — like the upstairs living area, the bedrooms, and the staircase — with natural light.
